The Little Things

Hi everyone!

I have been MIA for the past few weeks- shame on me, I didn't even leave you guys a memo... Anyway, I promise I had a good reason to be gone, what with work, school stuff, and moving - twice! But I'm back to regular posting lovelies, so here's a little something for you:

One Year Blog Anniversary!!

Phew, what a busy day it has been - finally found some time to say this:
One year ago, on June 01, I made the leap and debuted my secret hobby into the world! And can I just say, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have loved the whole journey and learned so much through it all. But while I am so happy that I get to write and create and express my thoughts whether it is through the clothes I wear, the food I like or the quotes I share, the best(est!) part is that I can count each and every one of you and be thankful - for you! For encouraging me to start, for sticking with it, reading loyally, remembering your favorite posts, commenting, liking and following and generally just taking the time to read the things I share on the internet- you have truly made a difference to me. So thank you, merci, gracias! Let the good times keep rolling!

Chrissy

Make It Happen

Some days, I find it super easy to be a lazy little girl and not do anything. Other days, I do everything but what is most important. What's that called again?...Ah yes - procrastination. Well, today I am going to:

I hope you do too :)

Bon Chance!

Quote: A Girl Who Reads ~ Rosemarie Urquico

Hi lovers,

I found this and had to share it with you. If you have the time (and patience!) to read it, it truly is beautiful. Words have so much power and this is a great example :)
Source: weheartit.com

“You should date a girl who reads.

Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes, who has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.
Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she has found the book she wants. You see that weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a secondhand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow and worn.
She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.
Buy her another cup of coffee.
Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.
It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.
She has to give it a shot somehow.
Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.
Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.
Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.
If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.
You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.
You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.
Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.
Or better yet, date a girl who writes.”

On a different yet similar vein, read this:

“…Don’t date a girl who reads because girls who read are storytellers. You with the Joyce, you with the Nabokov, you with the Woolf. You there in the library, on the platform of the metro, you in the corner of the cafĂ©, you in the window of your room. You, who make my life so goddamned difficult. The girl who reads has spun out the account of her life and it is bursting with meaning. She insists that her narratives are rich, her supporting cast colorful, and her typeface bold. You, the girl who reads, make me want to be everything that I am not. I am weak and I will fail you, because you have dreamed, properly, of someone who is better than I am. You will not accept the life of which I spoke at the beginning of this piece. You will accept nothing less than passion, and perfection, and a life worthy of being told. So out with you, girl who reads. Take the next southbound train and take your Hemingway with you.

Or, perhaps, stay and save my life.”

{ A Few Things }

Hope you all had a good Sunday. Life got a little less hectic so I will definitely be posting more regularly - and don't forget, I've got some exciting new things to share with you all! But here are a few pictures for now:

We had some beautiful frost/fog a few days ago and I had to share :)

A beautiful wrap can transform an everyday t-shirt and jeans outfit

My mommy - so stylish and beautiful :) She's wearing an Avirate dress with gold jewelry and a burgundy Louis Vuitton clutch. Ankle strap heels and a bright lip complete the look.

Have fun watching the the Oscars tonight,

{Mint}spiration

Thank God for long weekends! They are a blessing - I can finally breathe a little and I am feeling a lot better. But while everyone is probably busy partying it up, I am studying - a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Anyway, I am obsessed with mint - the color, not the breath freshener ;) It is definitely going to be my go-to color for Spring and Summer along with coral. Oh and it is also now my fave color almost beating purple (it's currently at a tie now. What a dork, I know). Here's some inspiration of my latest obsession:

So it's settled. My bedroom is going to be painted in mint and white. Focus, we're talking about a few hundred years from now - my dream house, a place to finally call my own, when I'm at that stage in life where I want to settle down and stay in one place. Oh did I mention, preferably overlooking the beach?

My other now destroyed obsession: teacup kittens. For some time, I've been so in love with these tiny cuties, so much in fact, that I even researched them because I was convinced I was getting one. But I'm not. And you shouldn't either. I found out that these little kittens are being 'mass-produced' in kitty mills to feed our obsessions, they are even genetically modified so greedy people can make a buck (or $800!) - so sad. PLEASE don't buy teacup kittens unless you're adopting or it is part of a proper, well bred litter.

How cute! Would definitely do this for a birthday or an engagement.

{A Few Things } Peace. Love. Chocolate

Hey hey,

I haven't posted A Few Things feature in a while and I thought it was time to share :)

I can't wait for spring - for warmer weather, bright baubles and the smell of rain!

This was a t-shirt an old friend gave me. It was his originally but I loved it so much that he gave it to me before I left Sri Lanka for college.

Start seeing the glass as half-full. It does wonders for your attitude and gives you a whole lot of options you never thought you had.
Beautiful finds on one of my adventures. Peace, Love and Chocolate - isn't that all you really need?

Audrey Hepburn. Just wow. What a glamorous lady and I'm loving those pearls worn backwards. Definitely going to experiment with that one. [Source unknown]

Indian motifs in a Lous Vuitton gown. Definitely fusion at its best - love love! [Source unknown]

Have a fab weekend lovelies!

{ A Few Things }

Hello from Sri Lanka!!

I hope finals have treated you kindly and that you are using every precious minute of the holidays to kick it up and party hard. I've been here in sunny Sri Lanka for a couple days now and I haven't had the energy to post because I'm still a little jet-lagged and busy settling in. But while that happens, here are a few things:

Source
I interned at my university's Television Center and this was part part of recruitment campaign for Studio One, the student produced live television show. The posters advertise a bingo night and I love the old school carnival/circus feel to it. It's very bright and attention-grabbing which is great. My friend and co-worker, Glen Gengel was the creative genius behind the posters. Here's another, it looks way better in reality than it does in the picture - shadows, I tell you!

I love reading, everything from magazines and novels, to autobiographies. You can hate, but I just don't care! :)

Lately, I've been obsessed with all things peacock. The texture and rich colors, there's just something about it that's very exotic.

Colorful stationary! Who doesn't like a nice sugary pop of color surrounding them at all times!

I thought I'd leave you with this - appropriate, since I'm back on my fave island and enjoying every minute of it, one Corona at a time! Oh and did I mention, I'm going to the beach on Wednesday ;)

Things I Love About Fall

The official first day of Winter is on December 21. But here in North Dakota, winter starts from the minute the snow stays on the ground, because along comes the wind and before you know it, you could freeze into a human snowman. Unfortunately, these dark days are upon us and I have been desperately wishing for a rewind button to indulge in fall, if just for a moment (or another month is fine too).  To escape, I was looking at pictures online and I thought I would share the things I love about fall with all of you :)

I love absorbing nature's beauty and everything it has to offer. This is why I need a sweet expensive camera. Anyway, back to the list.
